Intellectually, I don't feel any differently about Sam Sloan and his
general effect on the dysfunctionality of USCF politics than I did
yesterday.

Emotionally, it's harder to hate a person after having played chess
with him.


It takes a big man to admit that, Bill. (And I don't mean that in an
Eddie Haskel sort of way, either.) Even in the case of someone like
Sloan. Chess has a way of "humanizing" even the most bitter rivalry
and endearing your opponent to you, if only a little bit. I respect
you for saying so.
