Do you mean Ilya Abramovich Kan (1909-1978)? If so, he had
Botvinnik's number for a very short time. Chess Base shows 19 games
between them, dating 1929-1955, with the score +13 -2 =4 in Botvinnik's
favor. Kan's wins were in 1929 and 1935. Kan was good (one of the
original IMs in 1950), but not in Botvinnik's class.
....Some of Kan's losses were in training games. These were certainly taken
seriously by both players but - probably more by one player than the other.
