Ha!! You got rich running adult chess tournaments, huh? Name one
entrepreneur of adult chess tournaments that got rich since I first
joined
in
1963.
Bill Goichberg. It was reported he makes 300,000 a year. How else could he
afford those fancy cars he drives.

Which leads me to one question. If only one organizer (for the purposes of
this discussion) makes a profit, and a significant one at that, what happens
when that organizer retires?
My idea is that the possibility exists that chess in the US would go the way
of the majority of chess clubs out there, which is: one person gets a bug up
their butt, and does everything ... runs tourneys, does the ads, the
footwork, the organizing, site procuring, signs the checks ... and burns out
in a year or two. The club does extremely well till this guy stops showing
up, and all of a sudden, the chess club dies.
Please don't let this happen nationally.
