Gerald Ford, The Greatest President Who Ever Lived
I have been watching with a combination of amusement and disgust the
gaudy display that his been going on during the past few days, where
speaker after speaker has described Gerald Ford in the most laudatory
terms imaginable.
One would imagine that Gerald Ford was the greatest president who ever
lived, and possibly the greatest man in the history of the world.
However, those of us with a sense of history and who actually remember
the man realize that Gerald Ford was a terribly mediocre man. President
Lyndon B. Johnson got it exactly right when he said that Gerald Ford
was "too stupid to walk and chew gum at the same time".
I wonder why the taxpayers are paying for all this pomp and
circumstance, all this gaudy display over a man who became president,
and a **** poor president at that, as a historical accident and as a
reward for being the last to remain slavishly loyal to President
Richard Nixon during the depths of the Watergate Crisis. Why is all
this ceremony pushing the real, serious and important news, like what
is going on in Iraq, off of the front pages of the news?
