2) I think I mentioned that actually playing chess is the real test
Phil, YOU don't actually play chess. YOU haven't played a rated tournament
game in over ten years. Your real rating is very likely somewhere in the "b"
class or worse now, as usually happens to an old geezer who is out of the
game for awhile. We had a couple of guys in your age range who used to be
2300 that came back for some OTB and ended up performing like "a" class
players. You've never been anywhere near 2300, nor do you have any FIDE
rating. At your pinnicle peak best you were once rated 2044, but that was a
long time ago and is clearly no longer the case.
Apparently you don't even play online speed games because you've never once
mentioned doing that. If you did we could arrange to meet somewhere, such as
Playchess. I play there pretty much every day, and most, if not all, of the
players over 2100 who make posts here have already played me many times,
though they might not want to admit what their results were.
As I said, battling your quad core computer against someone else's in a game
of internet corr. chess is not "playing chess".
