FIDE must have been surprised to learn that we have a new World
Champion.

I imagine that most readers realize that Susan's event was not the
REAL World Championship.

As to the great service she does to chess by running these events,
note that she charges entry fees ranging from $30 well in advance to
$60 at the site. The prizes she awards consist of trophies, gift
certificates, books by Susan Polgar, DVDs by Susan Polgar and other
give away and promotional items.

The rest is pure profit.

Apparently, not many were fooled because last year her "World
Championship" drew only 72 players.

I have no objection to Susan making money from running chess
tournaments. The poor girl needs money. However, she should use other
names for her tournaments rather than calling them the "World
Championship" and "National Championship".
