I don't understand what's remarkable about the press release. That
was the height of the dotcom era and compnaies were dumping millions
on far crazier things as well.

This press release may explain why Polgar kept insisting that the
match be postponed to September 1999 and kept saying that she would
be able to raise two million dollars for the match by that time.

Well, she expressed an idealistic desire that the WWC prize fund be
that high, and got some silly corporation to bat around the same
number, but I don't see any documentation that she actually held out
for such an amount.
