wow , i did not think it was that much elo ..
What is Fritz eleven then ? You mite be right to save your money on the
new Fritz because it could not be much more , maybe 2900 elo ?
Or has it made 3000 , elo ?
I don't know, but the ChessbaseUSA site
makes it /appear/ that version eleven won't
be released until November 2008.
I feel that way about Ivan too , i have played it vs Fritz 9 and lost as
black and white ...On one end game Ivan had his rook protecting a lowly
pawn while Fritz was attacking the King , i kept yelling at Ivan to move
the rook to help the King and by the time Ivan woke up and stated to
move the rook over to help it was pretty much over...ha ha ha.....
I can see Ivans weakness in the end game when it plays powerful
programs but i am not good enough to exploit it myself when i play
Ivan......
Fritz 10 is rated 2856, but there are *free* chess
engines rated even higher!
The thing is, to use an engine inside the Fritz
interface, it has to be a certain type. Personally,
I have "issues" with both the Fritz interface and
the free alternatives which handle the other type
of engines.
For instance, it is very difficult to get Fritz 5.32
to do what I want it to do; the designer seems
to have been from another planet. And yet the
Arena interface, which is free, frequently gets
stuck where you can't move anything until you
figure out what square is "highlighted", then go
and click it just so whereupon you can then
make the next move on the board. Typing in
the moves has its own issues, for the interface
wants to chop off the last letter /sometimes/ and
then decides your next entry is invalid because
it took that letter and placed it in front, as if
/trying/ to muck things up.
