The idea of doing double pieces is implemented in Millennium Chess.
The pieces are laid out on a 15x8 board and they mirror one another.
It plays much like chess, but is much heavier. It doesn't take
hundreds of moves either to play. I am curious how you manage to pull
off a double checkmate. In Millennium, you end up capturing one king
and then checkmate the second.

I will say it is a much heavier game than regular chess.
