So for a few dollars less than the cost of Fritz 11 (which is
currently $58 including shipping from Cajun Chess, as one example),
you can play chess at GitClub for a year. Of course, if you buy Fritz
11, a one year subscription to PlayChess.com is also included.

So which option should a person choose? Fritz 11 plus a year of play
at playchess for $58, or a year of play at GitClub for $50?

Just a word of warning: Fritz 11 is not going
to be an easy mark; in order to win, you may
find yourself ordering the multi-processor
version of Deep Rybka, and giving yourself
extra time. But you can just play other
humans at playchess... . ;D

But you do also get a bunch of weaker engines thrown in for free with
the main GUI. I still think Shredder is better value because it includes
a set of fast tablebases up to 5 pieces (and plays a more exciting
game). Or has Fritz11 caught up on this feature now?

And there are a bunch more free weaker engines available on the CB
website and elsewhere for variety.

Most folk would be better off with an even cheaper copy of one of the
main CB engines at around the 8/9 revision mark. The newest engines are
now so strong that they cannot be tuned down to club player level
realistically!
