Painfully bad? There are some infelicities in the text linked
upthread, but the Manheim/Willett translation was substantially
reworked for B'way (as I discovered between returns last night)

Don't get hung up on words or music or Raul Julia's inadequacies, but
go with the experience.
There is, however, a superb recording, namely the 1958 Lotte Lenya
production with several excellent Cabaret singers, in particular
Trude Hesterberg.
Lenya is Lenya. I've listened to the Lenya/Thurn Mahagonny (1958?) a
couple times this tax season--in fact, it's sitting on my desk.
