Anand reveals real full name in interview
(Miriling) writes:
Grant, I stand corrected. Thank you. His name is Anand Vishwanathan, as
stated; his father's name is Vishwanathan Krishmamurthy.
But I think that's still wrong. Anand's name is Anand. He has just
one name, sort of like Suharto (hmm not such a flattering comparison).
Anand's father's name is Vishwanathan, who also has just one name.
That's the normal practice in that part of India.
When Anand writes down "Anand V." or "Anand Vishwanathan" that's just
to help prevent confusing him with another Anand, sort of like
"Aragorn son of Arathorn", but "Vishwanathan" is not actually part of
Anand's name. Ganesan (another Tamil-speaking chessplayer who has
just one name, and who interviewed Anand) wrote an article a while
back explaining this.
