Default Why fritz?

It seems that whenever a player--from patzer to GM--uses a computer to
assist analysis, it's Fritz. Why don't you ever read "My training
Partner, Tiger, says..."?

What's so special about Fritz?

John

This is a very interesting question. I'm going to take a wild guess at a
deceptively simple answer:

"Fritz" is a well-known *brand name* which applies to an *interface* as much as
it applies to the various incarnations of Fritz engines and opening books.

Therefore, when people say [or write]:

"My training partner, Fritz..." (as you implied above) they actually mean:

"My training partner, [the computer interface in which I may choose to run any
number of different engines and employ different opening books, hashtables and
tablebases, says..."...

Honestly, which would you rather type?

Like I suggested, this is a complete guess, but it's true for me, and may be
true for a great many people.
