You are correct in saying it was speculated or conjured that it was him.
I
am a HUGE Fischer fan, and as much as I would of loved to believe that it
was him, it seems very unlikely that it was. To those who are anaware of
what we are talking able, the following link from Chessbase
(http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=11) will explain, with the
so-called Bobby Fischer games in it's Game viewer.

I recall a follow-up article where the whole thing was revealed as a prank,
with the prankster (from Canada?) using parallel computers and having pretty
good historical knowledge of the game. I don't remember more than that
though, unfortunately.
