No funeral arrangements as yet. He is to be cremated as per his wishes. Doris
will be staying with her son until after the holidays, but you can send cards
to 14371 North Sky Trail, Tucson, AZ 85737

Denis J. Barry leaves a mixed legacy. There were some who liked him,
some who hated him and some, like me, who really did not know enough
about him to have an opinion one way or the other.
I sincerely hope that somebody writes a comprehensive and detailed
obituary of him.
Just about everything I know about Denis Barry is that he was USCF
President from 1993 to 1996. He was a big chess organizer in New
Jersey, but often did not get along with Steve Doyle. I believe that
Denis Barry founded and established the US Amateur Team East
Championship, the biggest and most successful adult chess event in the
USA. He was in general an ally of Tom Dorsch and an opponent of Bill
Goichberg. He retired to Arizona and lived the last years of his life
there. He was a long time 1900 USCF rated chess player.

That is all I know about him. I was out of the country, living
overseas or not active in chess during most of the years when he was
most involved. I met and spoke to him many times but never really got
to know the man.
I hope that somebody can fill in the blanks.
