Default Hultgren, R - Harrow, SVE cup, Campbell, CA 1906

John Blackstone has been a USCF Master for 3 or 4 decades and now resides
in Las Vegas. Ralph Hultgren was around USCF 1900 and was a professor of
metalurgy at University of California, Berkeley and would be in his late
90s by now. Not familiar with other two names or SVE, but either Kerry
Lawless or Richard Shoreman via CalChess would know the answers.

I was pointed to http://www.chessdryad.com/games/games.htm where there
is a large collection of Northern California chess games. In there I
found John Blackstone - Carl Dommeyer, skittles, Campbell, CA 1960. As
Mr. Blackstone is credited on the site as being responsible for
providing some of the games, it would appear that the game is legit.
That tags two of the four "mystery" players.

(BTW, there is another Blackstone - Dommeyer game from 1960 in the
database, listed as from the championship of Campbell High School, so
the 13-mover I was looking at seems to be a skittles game between two
teens.)

The database also has games played by a Ralph Hultgren -- including a
game between Hultgren and Dommeyer in LA in 1963. There are a couple
of Harrow games, but not the Hultgren - Harrow SVE cup "twin" to
Blackstone - Dommeyer.

So, I'm still wondering: two exact games, the same town, the same year
- were these guys trying to create a Jerome Gambit revival or
something?? ;-)

I guess the truth lies with John Blackstone, Carl Dommeyer, Ralph
Hultgren, or Mr./Miss Harrow.

And, I'm still wondering - what is/was the SVE cup?

Thanks.

Does anyone know what the "SVE cup" is? Does anyone know "R.
Hultgren", "Harrow," "J. Blackstone" or "C. Dommeyer" and can comment
on which of the two games -or both- is legit?

Many thanks.

Rick
