chess burnout
Yes this is common, happened to me, and others i've read about. Just take a
break don't play, go to the beach, relax, whatever you want. You'll get your
passion for it back and when you do, even if you are a bit sloppy at first
you'll catch up to where you were very quickly. I find I often play a
stronger game after taking a break rather than to continue with a muddled
mind and a hatred for the game. If you love it you'll do better anyway. So
don't fret over it. So you take a week or two weeks, it won't matter.
Chess is a very demanding mistress, like most arts or sciences. Getting away
from it too can give perspective and allow some things to sink into our
subconsciousness as we process them, make them more natural.

I have not played chess for a week. I feel burnt out. This is only the
second time this has happened to me in the past two years. The previous
time
it happened to me, I came back with a vengeance and did quite well.
My chess regimen has typically involved daily playing/training (average of
2+ hours), 1 chess lesson per week, and 1 chess tournament every month or
two. I doubt that overtraining is the problem.
I am wondering if this happens to everybody, and if it is part of growing
as
a chess player.
Thanks,
Sandy
