Every day, there are police officers that pretend to be prosititutes,
drug deals and the like to catch criminals. What's your point?

The deciding factor in criminal proceedings like this are intentions.
What were his intentions? If his intention was to have sex with a 15
year old girl and went through all these actions to do so (drove to
her juvenile detention center, rented hotel room), then he's guilty.
Regardless of whether or not the person he actually talked to was 15
or 45.

Besides, why else would he he rent a hotel room with a hottub,
complete with condoms and sex toy? I guess he wanted to show her his
`Dragon`!

If what has been reported is true, then I'd say Alex is screwed. And
he deserves to rot in Prison.
