Default Chronos clock problem

I have one of the new Chronos clocks with the touch-sensitive buttons.
The other day I noticed both sides blanking out periodically (and the
clock would have to be re-set). This only happened when it was being
used on a certain table in the room. It turns out that this table is
next to (at table height) a power bar containing several plugs for
computers etc.

Is it possible that something like this could cause the "blanking
out"? Or could it be that it just needs new batteries?

Not a direct answer, but I have noticed that computer monitor images
flicker when placed near a powerful transformer.

Strong magnetic fields, then, must somehow goof up the Chronos.
A rather unexpected thing....
