I just saw the announcement on Channel 5. The lead story on the 10
o'clock news tonight will be that the Morrow High School in Brooklyn won the natinal high school championship where 1200 kids competed and they were greeted by the President. If you live in New York City, be sure to turn on the Channel 5 News tonight at 10 PM. It could be an important story for us teachers of chess. Sam Sloan |

Vaux has won tons of chess titles here, and the media notices, but there is no real impact on the game. |

I just saw the TV news Broadcast. It was very good. It said that
Edward R. Morrow High School in Brooklyn won the National High School Championship. It showed them meeting NY Senator Chuck Shumer and said that they were going to be invited to meet president George W. Bush They briefly interviewed twice the best played on the team Ilya K Kotlyanskiy http://www.64.com/uscf/ratings/12716110 He was asked whether he would challenge President George W. Bush to a game it he got to meet him. Ilya said that he was just a C Player but he would certainly like to play him if they could. Then, the news announcer said that no politician would dare to sit down to a chess game with any of these kids. Also interviewed was Fred Goldhirsch of The Right Move Org. Fred certainly deserved the publicity as he has organized 111 tournaments by The Right Move, mostly with his own money, as the tournaments are free. http://www.therightmove.org/ http://www.64.com/uscf/ratings/11294405 They also interviewed a chess coach named Elliott Weiss that I never heard of http://www.64.com/uscf/ratings/12536935 I could also see Andre, who is now manager of the Marshall Chess Club, in the background. I am unable to confirm that the Edward R. Morrow High School really won the National High School Championship, however. http://www.uschess.org/news/press/uspr0413.php Sam Sloan On Wed, 15 Dec 2004 23:01:32 GMT, (Sam Sloan) wrote: I just saw the announcement on Channel 5.
