The Racist of Reykjavik vs. The Beast of Baku?
This is such a great line from an article in the Guardian by Leonard Barden that I felt obliged to repeat it. Sam Sloan |

The Racist of Reykjavik vs. The Beast of Baku? This is such a great line from an article in the Guardian by Leonard Barden that I felt obliged to repeat it. Sam Sloan Barden on chess Leonard Barden Saturday April 2, 2005 The Guardian It emerged that during his eight-month stay in a Japanese detention centre Fischer played several games with a Burmese guard who almost got a draw. So what chance for Fischer v Kasparov, the racist of Reykjavik v the beast of Baku? The two all-time greats have never met, let alone played a game. There could be an incentive soon. Next week a Philadelphia grand jury is likely to indict Fischer for tax evasion and money laundering. The last charge, based on Fischer's payments to US lawyers who helped him fight deportation, is the key. It could trigger the new US Patriot Act enabling the IRS to acquire details of, and perhaps freeze, Fischer's Swiss bank account. So Fischer could be free but broke, needing another large payday for his old age. http://sport.guardian.co.uk/chess/st...450720,00.html End article. ========================================== I'm more interested in the Philadelphia grand jury indictment, which according to Rene Chun, should have commenced on April 5, 2005. His story was qouted by the press all over the world, including the above article. Anybody here from Philadelphia have heard that this proceeding has started? |

According to this excerpt it is in DC.
ANd I would think the attorney/client privilege would prevent testimony by Fischer's lawyer. RL Posted 3/8/2005 7:09 PM Bobby Fischer under investigation for possible money laundering PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., is investigating possible money-laundering charges involving former chess champion Bobby Fischer, who is already wanted for violating U.S. economic sanctions, one of his lawyers said. "This is a pure tactical and propaganda ploy," attorney Richard Vattuone said. Federal prosecutors issued a subpoena last week to a second lawyer, Joseph Choate Jr., who once represented Fischer, ordering him to appear March 17 before the grand jury to discuss a "possible violation" of money-laundering statutes. Choate declined to be interviewed about the subpoena, a copy of which Vattuone provided to The Associated Press. |

Any later news from Philadelphia? According to Rene Chun, a grand jury indictment proceedings should have started on April 5, 2005. |

I have had dozens of telephone conversations with Rene Chun, to my great regret. Rene Chun is a liar with whom I will never have dealings again. I will not believe anything he says or writes unless it is confirmed by a solid source. Where did he report this? Sam Sloan |

I will not believe anything he says or writes unless it is confirmed by a solid source. Where did he report this? Sam Sloan Of course it's a lie. Like I said before, Rene Chun has been known to make things up, the latest was the following as written in Chesscafe.com: "This latest U.S. government assault on Bobby Fischer is still in the preliminary stages but it is stealthily moving forward and the I.R.S. Criminal Investigation Division special agents ("CI" in Beltway vernacular) are already hard at work. To date, a grand jury has been selected, interviews have taken place and subpoenas have been issued. The first court date for Fischer's I.R.S. case is slated for April 5, 2005, in room 601 of the Nix Federal Courthouse in Philadelphia. Why is the City of Brotherly Love the lucky recipient of this potential tourist bonanza? Because the I.R.S. Service Center there is where expatriates are directed to file their 2555s. For domestic drones, a Form-2555 is for U.S. citizens who earn income abroad but maintain no current American residence. In other words, people just like Bobby Fischer." --Rene Chun More on this link: http://www.chesscafe.com/skittles/realendgame.htm |
