in. After a life in the academe, I find reading a whole range of

Haven't you read the book? I found it fascinating, and could hardly
put it
down. It is a quick read, and I am glad I read it before seeing the
movie.

I'm right there with Perfect. I read all the time... and it's *always*
technical in nature. I can't even find time to watch a sitcom. It's
been like this so long that I've never even seen a whole episode of
Friends... or anything else that's been on the tube in ten years.

My question is why do you bother with posting in these silly groups?
There are some good things on TV.

Because there are people on usenet with expertise that I can tap.

That is true for all of us, but it doesn't end up as a primary way to get
information. There are good programs on public TV, and in other media that
we can access to give us things that are good to know as well.



As to the reading, I read all the time, but do no restrict what I take
in. After a life in the academe, I find reading a whole range of
things--many with some social relevance--as well as for enjoyment,
better for me.

And you also aren't extremely good at any cutting edge technology. ;-)

Depends on what you mean. I know a heck of a lot about the technology of
health care in all settings, but I don't read only about that. How would
you know what I am good at, in any case.


Whatever you choose, but then you don't have to get into discussions
about the things you don't value.

But how well can you trust those outlets to give you unbiased specialized
content that addresses exactly what you need without the fluff? Me knows
he can post to a particular group with an issue and there will be at
least a half dozen people who have dealt with it, and since many of us
have been here for years while building our careers - it's like one big
melting pot of information amongst friends.

We can't get the kind of information we seek from watching TV.

All of us have access to those groups on Usenet. I suppost that is what
"keeps" us posting after encountering idiots on other groups.

This is getting way out of line. Why are those of you who object so much
not see that this is exaggeration, projection, and defensiveness. When I
first posted I asked the poster (?) if he/she had read the book, etc.--and
look where it has gone.

As far as I am concerned this is overkill and taking a point and running
with it. Sorry to have intruded in whatever group of people are posting to
this thread, but it was on a public group and I responded.
