Stop paying USCF Dues by Joseph Chambers
It is clearly evident that the only way to evict all of the rats from the USCF is to stop supporting these miscreants with money. Don't renew your membership in the USCF. Don't pay dues. Stop buying anything they sell. Once the money is gone, the rats will jump off the sinking ship. Hopefully someday there will be people involved in the USCF who do not act like mobsters, and who can be honest to...

Amature chess question about ratings by Rekottop
I am a US Sailor and a bunch of people on my ship would like to have a tourney. We want to keep track of our chess rating between us all but no one knows how to calculate it. Could anyone direct me to a place that talks about how to calculate a rating for people and possibly how to put on a small tourney between about 20 to 50 people? Thanks so much every one. Bill

Bobby Fischer April Fools Jokes by Sam Sloan
Somebody posted a really good Bobby Fischer April Fools Joke at http://www.thetriangle.org/news/904817.html I have been trying to think of my own joke, but as I am not much of a jokester I cannot come up with one. I suppose that a good joke would be one which sounds like a real news item at first until it is revealed as a joke.

New Anti-Draw Rule in Grandmaster Tournament by John Rowland
"Larry Tapper" wrote in message ... It's an interesting experiment and we'll see what happens. If this experiment were a success, the ban on draws would become the norm across all tournaments. However, the top players would rather have the freedom to call early draws whenever they feel like it. Therefore it is...

illegal move by Koger
Hi I'm playing chess with a friend using emails. My king was threatend by another piece, but I didn't notice and moved another piece, and made an illegal move. Did I now loose the game or should I make a legal move?

What do they call this chess set? by Melissa
I have a chess set from the 70's that I really like but it's getting old and the board is coming apart. I liked the pieces though. It's a plastic weighted set with brown and white woodgrain pattern cardboard board. The pieces are full size plastic and instead of just being like the staunton sets, these have actual characters like the queen and king standing there. The knights are actually...

Gerald Dullea replaces Glenn Petersen as Chess Life Editor by Sam Sloan
Gerald Dullea replaces Glenn Petersen as Chess Life Editor It has been reported by several sources that with Glenn Petersen in intensive care recovering from a serious heart attack, Gerald Dullea has been appointed to replace him on an interim basis. I am concerned about this development. I have only met Gerald Dullea once. That was at the 2001 USCF Delegate's meeting in Framingham. I know...
