Help Bots new idea tickeled. by
Sanny
Help bot suggested about the blockade strategy it helped GetClub play
much stronger games now.
I played two games with Beginner vs Rybka and found even Rybka is not
able to get ahead and finish GetClub like it used to earlier. It is
taking longer for Rybka to win against the Beginner Level. As Beginner
is not allowing Rybka to take its pieces easily.
The Games are ending with +10 Moves.

Why was Louis Watson Ranked the Number 4 Bridge Player in the World? by
samsloan
I keep reading that in 1934 Louis H. Watson was ranked the number 4
bridge player in the world.
He died tragically in 1936 at age 29.
Why was he ranked number 4 ? Who were numbers 1, 2 and 3 ??
I have searched newspaper reports from 1932-1934 and it seems that
Watson was winning almost everything. The one time that his team
finished only second, it was attributed to a series of highly

Beginner atleast 1850+ Rated acording to FICS games. by
Sanny
As few people said FICS gives correct Rating.
I played 3 Games at FICS against Beginner Level, To my amazement
Beginner won all the three games.
It beat three players of Rating 1832 and 1700 and 1500. And Now FICS
rates GetClub Beginner level as 1800+
So all those who used to say Beginner plays less than 1800 Look at
this game. See how Beginner Sacrificed its Knight and Won the game.

Trusting the Executive Director by
samsloan
If you have an Executive Director who is utterly worthless, or who
does not tell the board what he is doing or who often lies about what
he has done, then you have a situation where the ED cannot be trusted
with such critical decisions as the hiring or firing of the Editor of
Chess Life.
The USCF has lost more than two million dollars since 1999 and is
losing $300,000 more so far this year. None...

Very interesting. We made the New York Times again!!
When running for USCF Election, Paul Truong and Susan Polgar made a
campaign promise to bring more publicity to the USCF. This is one
promise that they have...

Beware of Rob ("The Robber") Mitchell by
samsloan
I am posting this here just to warn the occasional passers-by to
ignore the postings by Rob ("The Robber") Mitchell.
Rob (The Robber") Mitchell is not a chess player. He has never played
a rated game. He is not a member of the USCF. He really has no
connection with chess.
He joined the USCF for just one year in 2004. That was just so that he
could apply for a job with the USCF. He applied first...

My Big Win At Foxwoods by
samsloan
I won $2 (two dollars) at Foxwoods. If you ever go there, be sure to
take the Chinese Bus. Do not go by Greyhound. The Chinese Bus costs
$10 for a round trip ticket plus they gave me $55 in coupons. The $15
coupon is to pay for food. The $40 in coupons are what we call "two-
for-ones". Basically you bet $10 cash plus one $10 coupon on a even-
money bet like roulette, red and black. If you win,...

Criticism of Joel Channing allowed on chessdiscussion.com by
samsloan
I have noticed a strong trend towards attacking Joel Channing on
chessdiscussion.com This is significant because chessdiscussion.com is
heavily moderated and nothing can appear there without permission of
Polgar and truong.
For example, a lot of the financial decisions made by Joel Channing
have been criticized there.
Today an attack by "Tennessee Vols" appeared on the site. This is
because...

More Mishandling of Life Membership Assets by

More Mishandling of Life Membership Assets
Grant Perks puts his finger on the problem but misses the solution.
The problem is not the board and not the failure to pass a balanced
budget. We always pass a balanced budget. If the Executive Director
presents an unbalanced budget including a lot of money for his
friends, we simply write in a bunch of nice looking numbers and presto-
chango the...

Great Accomplishment by Erik Anderson in Idaho Schools Chess by
samsloan
I initially missed the article that appeared in the New York Times two
days ago, but this is a truly great development:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/20/us/20chess.html
What needs to be noted (and what nobody else has commented on thus
far) is that this program comes from Erik Anderson and his American
Foundation for Chess.
It also should be recalled that a certain person was attacking Mr.

Where is the Quarterly Financial Report? by

I think you recognize and agree that during my one year on the board I
consistently advocated a big cut in expenses. In particular, I
advocated very specific cuts that would have reduced expenses by
$80,000 without any reduction in services to the membership.
Unfortunately, at that time the board was deadlocked. I could only get
two-and a half to three votes to cut expenses. With a...

Watson on "The Outline of Contract Bridge" by
samsloan
Louis Henry Watson was a rapidly rising star in the World of Bridge.
At the age of only 29, he had won virtually every major title that
existed, playing with partners that included Oswald Jacoby, Howard
Schenken and Sam Fry. Watson was ranked the number four bridge player
in the world.
On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1936, in what seemed to be perfect
health, after a luncheon, Watson became ill...
