* Chess Clock by ChessSlave 2000
What is the best (money is no object) electronic chess clock? What electronic chess clock is most often used in rated tournaments? Should I get an analog chess clock as well? Enquiring minds want to know!

What Really Happened to My Candidate's Statement by Sam Sloan
What really happened to my candidate's statement, which has now been confirmed from two independent sources, is that my statement was not late. It was in production in Chess Life Magazine, until Beatriz Marinello ordered the Chess Life staff to remove it from the magazine. The claim that it arrived late was just a cover story to conceal what really happened. Sam Sloan

Let the USCF Die! by Chuck Connors
Once everyone stops paying dues and stops participating in USCF rated tournaments, sooner or later somebody will get the bright idea to set up an independant Rating organization. The USCF needs to receive a deep cleaning out from the top to the bottom, and all new people who are honest need to take over. If that is not going to happen, then the USCF needs to die, and another organization will...

Sandra Kimura Sloan prepares for the World Under-4 Chess Championship by Sam Sloan
Sandra Kimura Sloan prepares for the World Under-4 Chess Championship While I am typing this, my daughter Sandra Kimura Sloan is sitting on the floor next to me playing chess with herself. I did not teach her how to play. She is learning by watching other kids play. As she moves the pieces around, she keeps saying "Check" and "Bobby Fischer", words she must have learned from the other kids, as...

Did Steve Shutt miss the deadline?? by Sam Sloan
Did Steve Shutt miss the deadline?? Several interesting facts have come out of this Candidate's Statementgate Affair. An e-mail was sent to the candidates setting February 10 as the deadline for submitting a statement for the April Chess Life. However, several candidates either did not receive or did not read the email and therefore missed the deadline.

Stop paying USCF Dues by Joseph Chambers
It is clearly evident that the only way to evict all of the rats from the USCF is to stop supporting these miscreants with money. Don't renew your membership in the USCF. Don't pay dues. Stop buying anything they sell. Once the money is gone, the rats will jump off the sinking ship. Hopefully someday there will be people involved in the USCF who do not act like mobsters, and who can be honest to...

Amature chess question about ratings by Rekottop
I am a US Sailor and a bunch of people on my ship would like to have a tourney. We want to keep track of our chess rating between us all but no one knows how to calculate it. Could anyone direct me to a place that talks about how to calculate a rating for people and possibly how to put on a small tourney between about 20 to 50 people? Thanks so much every one. Bill

Bobby Fischer April Fools Jokes by Sam Sloan
Somebody posted a really good Bobby Fischer April Fools Joke at http://www.thetriangle.org/news/904817.html I have been trying to think of my own joke, but as I am not much of a jokester I cannot come up with one. I suppose that a good joke would be one which sounds like a real news item at first until it is revealed as a joke.

New Anti-Draw Rule in Grandmaster Tournament by John Rowland

What do they call this chess set? by Melissa
I have a chess set from the 70's that I really like but it's getting old and the board is coming apart. I liked the pieces though. It's a plastic weighted set with brown and white woodgrain pattern cardboard board. The pieces are full size plastic and instead of just being like the staunton sets, these have actual characters like the queen and king standing there. The knights are actually...
