Default Chess software for mac os x

Is there anyone here that uses a mac os x? It does not seem to be any
decent software for the plattform! What is the closest thing I can get
to Fritz and Chessbase on Mac os x?

There isn't any. A good free game for OS X is Sigma Chess, but it is no
Fritz...

Now Mark Uniacke has completed Hiarcs 9.46 for the Palm he is working on
a PC upgrade Hiarcs 10 and also aims to make that available for the Mac.
Don't know what the time scale is - these things always take longer than
you think they will - but maybe December for PC Hiarcs-10 and Mac
version early in the New Year we hope.

Cheers... Eric

Thank you very much for the answers!
Hiarcs for os x would solve my problem. Eric, as an editor of
`selective search` you are a very credible source of information. Still
I fear... Because there is no information about it on the Hiarc
homepage and they have a link to Sigma Chess there to (a competitor).
Perhaps he change his mind?

Sigma Chess is nice, but, yes, it is no Fritz... or Hiarcs.

Scid and Crafty are fairly fine & free alternatives.

Like Sigmachess, they look fairly fine.
They also relies on X11 and Fink in order to install, however, and I
would rather not use that option. I like it simple.

But I guess I just have to learn a bit Unix. Thanks for the tip!

Scid and Crafty relies om xboard. Is the a way to change the colours of
the xboard from green and yellow to black and white? Can I also change
fonts on xboard?
