I Wonder playing Chess with computer as now it gives twice better
moves. Play at : http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html The game now uses better technique which made it about twice better while making moves in same time. So the Beginner level will also give a good challenge to new players. However those a bit better at Chess should start playing with Easy Level and then switch to Normal Level. I have not yet played with higher levels but sure they will give heavy competition. Play at : http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html I thank to all people who helped in finding mistakes. I hope now most of the problems have been sorted out. If any problem still there inform me and that will also be removed soon. Play first with Beginner Level If you win then beat the Easy Level If you win the Easy level also then Challenge the Normal, Master & Advance Levels. (All Levels are free to Play) (Multiplayer games are also availble) I played two games with my friend Online. Bye Sanny http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html |

It gives away pieces and queens unforced and plays more or less randomly. Despite that it regularly restarts the game. Greetings, Ralf |

I thought I'd play a quick game before I go to sleep. Instead, the engine wasted almost an hour of my time even at the Easy level and in 25 moves. :/ It did seem to try anyway and even get a grasp of something at some points. I know how boring it can be to gather some debug data for a program so here's the game in PGN: [Date "2006.5.11"] [White "ZeroOne"] [Black "Chess Game (Easy)"] [Result "1-0"] 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e5 Ng4 5.Ne4 O-O 6.a3 Ba5 7.b4 Bb6 8.d4 Nc6 9.c4 a5 10.c5 Ba7 11.Bb5 Nb8 12.bxa5 Nc6 13.Bxc6 bxc6 14.Qd3 d5 15.Neg5 f5 16.h3 Bxc5 17.hxg4 h6 18.dxc5 Rxa5 19.Qc3 Ra4 20.gxf5 hxg5 21.Bxg5 Qd7 22.f6 d4 23.Qd3 Rf7 24.Qh7+ Kf8 25.Qh8# 1-0 Actually the last moves were 24...Kxh7 25. Rxh7#. I hope you are able to extract some helpful information out of this anyway. Please do not comment my playing but only observe how the program plays - I knew I was playing a weak opponent and wanted to try some things I normally would consider twice. -Ville |

I tried to play the same game but it changed its move at 3rd move here
is my game 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nc3 Bc5 (instead of Bb4) Played at: http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html The interesting point of this game is that it makes a new game every time you play with it So you cannot win by making same moves. If there is any strategy mistakes it is doing please let me know it. Bye Sanny. http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html |

Yes there was a restarting problem that was rectified. If it again
restarts let me know it along with the moves. (This problem was due to typing mistake by one programmer). If you find any mistake let me know it and it will be removed. I do not think you could easily beat it's normal and master level can you show a game where you have beaten its master level easily? http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html Bye Sanny http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html |

He's been posting here about once a month saying his program now plays much better chess and every time, somebody posts about how it dropped a piece to a pawn fork within the first five moves. As far as I can see, Sanny's approach seems to be to hard-code positions into the program so it doesn't make the same mistake twice. Unfortunately, there are so many possible mistakes in chess that this is doomed to failure. This game was slightly better, but it took way too long. Your site says
Easy means "30 sec / move", but it usually thought for 2-5 minutes. Master says "2 min / move". Either Master is the same as Easy, or it would take much more than the 70 minutes Easy took. I again had to capture your king instead of mating it. I'm done with this--improve its performance if you want repeat traffic. [Event "Round #2"] [Site "Sanny's Site"] [Date "2006.May.12"] [Round "?"] [White "Sanny's Program - Easy"] [Black "likesforests"] [Result "0-1"] 1. d3 d5 2. Bf4 Nc6 3. Nf3 f6 4. g3 e5 5. Bd2 Bb4 6. I like the queenside pawn storm, knight sacrifice, and the mating
attack. It's actually a graceful solution to this chess engine. |

If there is any strategy mistakes it is doing please let me know it.
I'll go through the game from end to beginning. Well, it shouldn't make illegal moves, just as right in the end it made 24...Kxh7 which allowed me to capture its king. Putting that aside, moving into a forced mate in two on move 23...Rf7 is something that shouldn't happen. What's the search depth? A key mistake (or at least one of them) was 22...d4. That gives white a forced mate in 12 moves. I don't assume that it sees that, but breaking a just a fine pawn chain, limiting the rook's movement options and not moving the bishop into game via a6 should be enough to justify 22...Ba6 as a much better move. And then there was this 16. h3 Bxc5 17. hxg4 h6 18. dxc5 Rxa5. It gave me a knight and a bishop for two pawns. It could have avoided this by just saving the knight by moving it 16...Nh6. Right at the beginning you can see that the program has never heard of opening theory. The first move is 1...e6. French Defence, OK. But my point is that the second pawn move does not come until move 9...a5. It should open its play a bit more. Now it got really stuck in its positions. I hope this helps you develop the program further. ![]() -Ville |
