The main feature in ChessUp is the ability to link to the diagrams you
created. You don't need to find a server and post an image to it. Example: http://tinyurl.com/k4k2x Ray Gordon wrote: ChessUp is an online tool for creating chess diagrams. This is all very well but just posting the FEN string still has the advantage that it can be cut and pasted into a chess program and then the pieces can be moved around. Of course, the ChessUp URL still includes most of the FEN: if it could be extended to a full FEN string (including the side to move), everybody would win. The people who want to click the link can click the link; the people who want to use a chess program can do that. On the main GUI, you can click "Enter FEN", paste the text, and then get the image. Also, on the image result page, FEN notation is always displayed below the image for your convenience: http://chessup.net/result.php?fen=4r...P6/2PQB1P1/6KQ |

Spacer, I find your site useful, but your FEN misses non-positional
data. Like, whose turn it is, what turn number it is, etc. Here's my FEN: 2Rb4/4k3/1p2p1p1/7p/P4r2/8/5K2/8 w - - 0 41 Here's your FEN: 2Rb4/4k3/1p2p1p1/7p/P4r2/8/5K2/8 http://chessup.net/result.php?fen=4r...P6/2PQB1P1/6KQ wrote: the pieces can be moved around. Thank you for the feedback. ChessUp does support the position part of FEN. I think you've missed my point. Your URLs include the position part of the FEN string but not the information about whose move it is. Therefore, I can't cut and paste the FEN from the URL into. say, WinBoard and then move the pieces around -- WinBoard doesn't know whose move it is. If you included the `to move' information in the URL (and, indeed, in the diagram -- it's not always obvious from the position), your software would be more useful both for people who want to use it (like you) and people who would rather use a chess program to see chess diagrams (like me) because then they can move the pieces around.
