I am currently playing one person rated sub-1400 who is possibly using
Sargon. He is playing much stronger with white and black than an 1840 player
in the same tournament. But I don't really see any extensive evidence of
computer-aided cheating at GetClub.

Well, I am not in any position to decide, not having any program to
use as a standard. All I know is there are a couple of players whose
*style* makes no sense in human terms, yet the almost bizarre accuracy
of their tactical sight implies the use of computers. Note that I
have not
been their "victims", so I am not whining here, just commenting on
what
I have observed, though not really studied. I do believe I at one
point in
time owned a program named Sargon, and although it was not among the
strongest chess programs in my possession, it was at least,
reasonably
priced.

genius, like maybe Leonardo de Vinci. Of course, I'm better at chess
than he ever was, and one day I hope to ride in an actual helicopter,

changing the meaning altogether. Of course, in that case the relevant
phrase would be: "no more chess!", since I have long given it up

repressed desires as this, it is little wonder that Mr. Innes has
approached, if not actually reaching, the level of IMdom. But rest
assured that to reach the ultimate pinnacle of chess, the title of

This has been, and still is, a great contest. Hopefully I can do
better than a last place finish as I did in the previous one. I have
blundered badly In at least four games. Now if I can just find some
"pity" maybe I can at least get a draw somewhere.

Now there are two results in the win column, a 14 mover and an 18 mover -
both of some theoretical interest.

OTOH I am in dreadful trouble against a 1700 player and will be lucky to
survive, and Angelo and Inconnux continue to be tough as nails - and even
the Navy have come out of harbour with a girt-great battleship firing
broadsides at poor little me! Someone called Zed One is refusing to cave

Heavy snow here with 40mph winds making for a nice little white-out

This has been, and still is, a great contest. Hopefully I can do
better than a last place finish as I did in the previous one. I have
blundered badly In at least four games. Now if I can just find some
"pity" maybe I can at least get a draw somewhere.

Hey! You don't need pity, you need a gong for getting this thing going, and
also for being the lowest rated player in with the sharks. That is not
nothing!

Chess belongs to its players, friend, win or lose, you have an equal voice
if you play. That is the very big and naturally accepted rule, and every
real player honors it.

If you don't play you are just audience, opinion only, which is often no
more than the wisdom of a couch-potato, and so much pap, and there is much
of this in chess as in any other endeavor.

That is also the real basis of the foundation of this country - though
sometimes we forget it - we forget what the whole world invested here in
ordinary folks to solve things not solvable elsewhere, nevermind Kings and
Queens and great culture...

Now is the age of the Hobbit, We the Hobbit!
