I have read in some moment: (some of them were published more than 20 years ago) "The best move" by Vlastimil Jansa and Vlastimil Hort A very nice book, extraordinaire! A book from Larsen with 3 chapters (tactics, endings and plans) (I don't remember the title, ... but interesting chapter) "Test your positional play" by Bellin and Ponzetto (30 test of plans) Another try is the Botvinnik colection of "selected games" hiding the text and trying to find the moves and plans. I think some of those books are in pgn version in some sites. AT |

All book I have seen of this type are only tactics problems collections. thx. I think Teschner & Miles "It's Your Move" had non-tactical positions. Unfortunately my copy has long since disappeared in a house move, and I think it's now out of print, but a library might find it for you. According to http://www.bcmchess.co.uk/reviews/bcmrev9905.html "John Nunn's Chess Puzzle Book" might be both suitable & available. -- J.E.H.Shaw [Ewart Shaw] ick TEL: +44 2476 523069 Department of Statistics, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK http://www.warwick.ac.uk/statsdept http://www.ewartshaw.co.uk 3 ((4&({*.(=+/))++/=3 @([:,/0&,^ i.3)@|:"2^:2))&.@]^ i.@[) #:3 6 2 |

Have a look at IM Jacob Aagaard and his brandnew "Excelling at positional chess"; published by EverymanChess, London (2003) www.everymanchess.com The book offers 108 positional exercises; level "advanced" to "WCh" I would say. manuel |
