Rooks and pawns endgame help please by
My name is Mac, not Spam
Hi. The following is a game I played on FICS recently. The time control was
G/60 with a 5s increment.
The game goes into a rook and pawns vs. rook and pawns endgame, with my
opponent up an extra pawn. I'm especially looking for any sort of help I can
get on my endgame, here, but any other advice is, as always, welcome.
In the end, I won, but not, I think, because I played the endgame (or...

The "Fumble Factors" of Great Players by
Brandon
The "Fumble Factors" of Great Players
Of any given player, I'm often interested to know, "How many games has
s/he lost when playing with the White pieces?" My personal name for
this factor is "the Fumble Factor", and I think it is an interesting
thumbnail measure of precision of play: other things being equal, a
highly precise player who is among the best living should not lose
playing...

Refutation for 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 by
James McComb
The game begins
1. e4 e5
2. Qh5
This is a premature Queen attack, so there should be a convincing
refutation, right? I don't know what it is, so I play

Following is the game score. White is 14 years old, and Black is a former

Thanks ( Why I lost #2 plz help) by
sathya_me
I used to read comp.lang.c and comp.lang.c++ where people responds very
quickly. So i thought that this NG
is not willing to respond. Going through the previous thread I released
that I am wrong. BTW thanks for all those
who responded the thread.

Chess Player LOTF Reality Show by
Florida Chess
I have a suggestion:
Have a Chess Player reality show where you drop a bunch of chess
players (from beginner to grandmaster) on an island and see what
happens. And unlike "survivor" etc. this would not be a game with
prizes but instead it would be a real life Lord of the Flies - only
with mixed ages of chess players - and no outside resources or help.
The island would have enough food to...

Advanced chess books (middlegame & tactics & psychology) by
PHR
Anyone have any ideas for good "advanced chess books"? I am rated a
little over 1900 and enjoy going through multitudes of game
collections, but I'm looking for something a little different. I've
been through "Reassess Your Chess" (Silman), "The Middle-Game in
Chess" (Znosko-Borovsky), "Judgement and Planning in Chess" (Euwe),
"Art of Attack" (Vukovic), "Pawn Structure Chess" (Soltis), and...

Is CM 7000's rating for artifical players a joke? by
Sky Walker
hello Guys,
I am a starting player and i have got a copy of CM 7000 last week cheap
($5). I have been playing some rated games against it, and beginning with
rated games CM 700 does not allow me to play against opponents rated higher
that 2200.
Now, playing 20 mins for each player i am able to beat the highest rated
opponent that i am allowed to play (tried sunny/2180 Dylan/1980 )...

disgusting player at the USOPEN (Florida) by
Florida Chess
I witnessed an absolutely disgusting player at the USOPEN:
He was a senior player with all sorts of open wounds on his arms
He constantly picked his teeth (with both hands) and then would touch
the pieces leaving fragments of decaying food/flesh on the pieces and
board
Next he would belch constantly with no effort to stop himself and just
being a spectator many feet away I could smell a very...

illegal move games by
Tim923
Are there famous games that had illegal moves? I think this would
most likely involve check, castling, and en passant situations. Or
could a game have wrongly ended by checkmate when there was another
move? Perhaps only chess idiots would play such games!?

Longest Known Game by
Bob Newell
I wanted to print out some scoresheets. There are numerous excellent
printable examples on the Web, but, being obsessed with typesetting in
the LaTeX system, and finding no LaTeX chess form, I reinvented the
wheel and created a LaTeX scoresheet.
Most scoresheets I've seen go up to about move 80. I know there are
longer games on record, although of course the vast majority are
shorter. Now, by...
