Annotated game-databases by
Lars Balzer
Hi all!
Perhapes you know my site:
http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~balzer/chessgames.html
It is a collection of links which link to WWW-pages all around the
world where you can download chessgames in various formats (pgn, cbf,
cbv, nic,...) for free!
Within my next update I would like to put a new section "annotated
games" in it.

Cochrane Gambit, Analysis (4.1): 5.d4 Qe7 by
Fernando
Below the "most" favourable line for white after 5.d4 Qe7 and gaining a 3
pawn centre.
There are still some alternatives left for black and white to deviate from
this line.
Black for example might try to push the b-pawn forward, or play 6.g6 with a
later Bg7.
Best regards,
Fernando

Analysis Please by
Matt Nemmers
Played at the Iowa Open this weekend. Motto for this game: "Damn the
torpedoes.....full speed ahead!" (Had a little sputtering during the
middlegame, but came out alright in the end.)
Any and all comments are welcome.

QGD Question by
Prof Gauss
In the following game, in which I played White, my opponent played the unusual
2...b6, and I think I proceeded in an acceptable manner to win the game.
However, I can't help but think that there must be a more direct response to
2...b6. I cannot find 2...b6 in any openings book. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I shall post a couple of the games of the Cochrane Gambit which I am now

SCID database by
Arnold Meijster
Hi all,
There's a beatutiful chess database program called SCID (see
http://scid.sourceforge.net/).
I used it for quite some time. Now, I needed to reinstall my windows, and
decided
to download scid again. However, now it turns out that the reference
database of 500.000+
games is no longer available for download. The author of SCID claims to put
a new database there

My first endgame study (intermediate) by
Claus-Jürgen Heigl
Hello,
motivated by Fernando's problems I composed a little problem of my
own. It's not too difficult, your favorite chess engine will solve
it in a millisecond. So try it alone. The position is so simple that
it could have been done before though I do not know it. I hope you
will find it of practical value.
White to begin and draw:

Always stuck after the opening... by
Alexander Fischer
Hi all,
I seem to be stuck in my progress on playing chess. Very often I encounter
the problem, that after a decent opening, which maybe even left me with an
advantage, I don't know how to proceed. This is especially the case if there
seem to be no possibilities for tactical gains - I'm just lacking a plan.
Take this as an example, me playing...

Is the Chigorin's Defense unsound? by
EZoto
Sometimes I think I should go back to it and force myself to learn how
to play knights vs bishops in the middle game.
You hit the nail on the head about this opening. Chigorin is sound
but you are playing an opening where you will have knights against
bishops. The problem is the positions in the chigorin favor the
bishops a lot of the time. Your position is sound but to get anywhere
in the...
