Diary problem 16 (Novice +) (KRBp5-Qp vs KRBp5-RB) by
Fernando
In the following position black is one pawn down and
playing with a exchanged Queen for a Rook and a Bishop.
3r1r1k/1Q1b2p1/7p/2p3b1/p1Pp4/8/PPB2PPP/R5K1 b - - 0 26
What is the best move for black?
(Not a win, but keeping the odds somewhat even)
Best regards,
Fernando

Underpromotion by
Dougy
Question: Is there any proper reason, ever, to underpromote to a R or
a B? (ie. excluding just for wit, assuming proper play)
I've seen plenty of reasons for promoting to a N or a Q but never a R
or a B. Obviously the check or forking advantage of a knight doesn't
work in the case of a rook or a bishop because a queen can do that
also.
However I can picture (fuzzily) something along the...

how to built a document for fast refresh of opening variants and ideas. by
kempelen
Hi;
I am worried how peope organice their opening ideas for a fast look.
I mean: has any of you have a on-the-fly and fast "refresh ideas
notepad" for openings?. How do you built it: word processor, special
chess software,....? What do you put there? I am thinking on build an
on the fly document to easy remember main points of my collection of
opening variants ideas that I have in a lot of PGNs...

Chess theory in PDF by
Harialbth
hi,
Does anybody know if there's chess opening theory manuals in PDF form
on the web? Or even chess books for that matter. I didn't find
anything on Kazaa though.

Building a solid foundation by
Russell Reagan
I would like to know what stronger players think is a good book (or small
set of books) to build a solid foundation for playing chess. Most people
want a quick fix, but I am asking for a book (or books) that when studied,
will give a player a solid foundation for moving on to become a strong
player.
I am not exactly sure if this is a good example, but the Inner Game of Chess
comes to mind. It...

Think Like A Grand Patzer by
Major Patzer
Here's a game I recently completed at http://net-chess.com. I
documented my thinking process throughout the game both to force
myself to actually ponder each position and in the hopes that the
stronger players here could point out how I could be thinking better.
Any time you can spend on analysis is appreciated. This is also my
first attempt at PGN; please let me know if the formatting...

Fritz 8 Full Analysis Reference DB by
dwy@io.com
I've been using Fritz 8 (Mar 5 2003 version) to analyze some
of the blitz games I play on FICS. This program does a great
job at pointing out all the obvious (and not so obvious)
tactics I overlook in my online games.
Using Full Analysis and choosing fritz8.cbh as the Reference-DB,
I often get recent game continuations in the commentary as
well as opening moves labeled as novelties. I also...

I've just been invited to ChessWorld.net (www.letsplaychess.com).
I'm playing one game as guest.
Seems ok, is it worth being a member?
Any members wish to comment.
TIA, Kym
I love it. I play there exclusively. I never have time for serious
OTB games, so I tried web-correspondence chess, and I'm hooked. ...

Best game ever...? by
Damir Ulovec
Folks, there's something on my mind in a last few days: what's the best chess
game you even seen? What I meant is prettiness of moves and combinations,
regardless of player's ranking (all players with great visions are welcome)...
This could be an interesting, I think. Anybody?

Chess Plagiarism??? by

Is there such a concept as chess plagiarism? I was going over some
games in John Walker's, Chess: Attacking the King, book. The game on
page 123 titled "Storming the Castled Position with Pawns" looked
familiar. The game is a Benoni-Indian from Kotov-Bastrikov 1954.

Question on Danish Gambit Variation by
Mr. Plow
Actually, I'm not sure if it's a Danish or a Goring, or perhaps common to
both.
After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 ed 4.c3 dc 5.Bc4 cb 6.Bxb2, I played the
natural-looking 6...Nf6. When I went to look up the variation later, I
could not find mention of it in any of my references, the main lines being
instead 6...d6 or 6...Bb4+.
I assumed the move is so obviously bad that it's not worth commenting...
