Fatal blackouts during long games by
Jenö Nyerges
Hello newsgroup :)
There is something that keeps puzzling me.Often I would lose slow
games against my computer or against humans on the ICC because I
suffer some kind of blackout after 2 or 3 hours of playing( I am
member of the Slow Time Control Bunch on ICC and we really play 90 30
games!)But this phenomenon also happened to me in OTB play: At some
point i lose all my focus, all overview of...

I was wondering if the Manhattan Chess Club is still closed. I went to

The club was on the 17th floor of the Hotel New Yorker.
Also, could anyone tell me why they closed their club?

Scotch Gambit: London Defence by
Smc080178
I have an opening rpertoire based on the Scotch gambit, but have been shown
that one line I play is bad:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd 4.Bc4 Bb5+ 5.c3 dxc3 6.0-0 cxb2 7.Bxb2 Nf3 8.Ng5 0-0
9.e5 Nxe5 10. Bxe5 d5......
For move 11. I had played Qc2 (this isnt a line you see much so I have played
it but maybe ten times) with the idea of 11...dxc4 loses to 12.Rd1 followed by
BxN. After 12. Bf5!,...

How do you like Caro-Kann? by
Jenö Nyerges
Hello chess afficionados,
I ask this because i really enjoy playing Caro. Not that i really know
much about it, i just acquired a certain feeling by looking at master
games and observing 2100+ players in my club playing it often. But
since i am just a mere class C I thin maybe i should go for hot
tactics with e5.Having white I like to set the board on fire with the
scotch and i alos love the...

declining gambits by
chessanalyst
Assuming gambit players are slew enough to play correct
gambits with enough positional compensation in any case
wouldnt it more wiser for average players to deline gambits ?
For example after e4 e5 f4 Bc5!? the not so well known Bardeleben
(instead of the more wellknown d5, Falkbeer) there's not much
special anymore in this position for white; last game in
my CA7.1 database gave 0-1 in...

Use Bookup or ChessBase? by
SilverStarPub
Hello! I am a 2000 ELO rated player trying to improve his opening repertoire
via the use of commercial software.
What would you recommend? Do you have any experience with these two software
packages? Can Informants on CD ROM integrate with any of these?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

2003 World Open Statistics by
Ivan
That was a really strong open section this past week. There were over
35 GMs playing. I think there was a 10 way tie for first place so
each person wins almost $3000.
What is interesting is that the GMs that got 11th - 20th place will
only get $80 since they have to pay their entry fee.
I am sure Goicherg is very happy with this turnout. I somehow feel
this format is not really as good as it...

hello,
"School of Chess Exellence 3 Strategic Play", is this the same book as

I know that "school of ch. ex.2 tactical play" is a news Olms translation of

Looking for a old Sicilian Game by
julian wan
Q to the group,
I'm looking for the score a Sicilian played in the US Championships
during the 1960-1970 period. White was played by R Byrne and I'm not
sure if Black was L Evans. White played a series of line clearance
sacrifices to bring out a mating attack - couldn't find it in US
Championships by Soltis or on the Chessgames.com database. ? Have the
wrong players ? I recall Byrne wanting to...

The Art of Chess Visualization by
Smc080178
I know of three books (although you did not acknowledge others who recommended
books)
The first two have already bee mentioned. The Inner Game of Chess by Soltis
actually addresses one of the things you mentioned in the first chapter. That
you can not visualize the whole board at once. It also has excersizes to help
you improve your vision. I would recommend using the technique in that book,
but...

Svesnikov 11. Nxb5 by
Douglas L Stewart
In "The Sicilian Pelikan" Svesnikov lists: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4.
Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Ndb5 d6 7. Bg5 a6 8. Na3 b5 9. Bxf6 gxf6 10. Nd5 f5
11. Nxb5 axb5 12. Bxb5 Bb7 13. exf5 Ra5!? 14. Qd3 Bg7 15. Qc4
Here it says 15 .. Rxb5 16. Qxb5 Qa5+ 17. Qxa5 Nxa5 is satisfactory for
Black, but it says 15.. 0-0 !? "promises even more".
After 15 .. 0-0 16. Bxc6 Rc5 it looks like White has the...
