Question About Annotation by
Bob Durrett
The following game is my current idea as to what annotations should look like when the purpose of the annotations is to inform one of the players as to where that player needs to improve. Imagine you were a strong chess master and had been hired to annotate a chess game for a chess amateur who played the Black side. Is the following representative of what you would provide? If not, what would...

Fritz 7 and 8 on Amazon by
julian wan
Q to group: I'm looking to get a copy of Fritz 7 or 8. While searching
on Amazon.com, I noticed that they offer copies of Fritz 7 and 8. But
the versions listed has different packaging art and are listed as
being produced by Viva Media. This seems to be a German company - is
this an arm of Chessbase? Does anyone know if the software is the
same?
Thanks in advance.

Slav Defense by

Can anybody shed some light on the gambit:
1. d4 d5
2. c4 c6
3. Nf3 Nf6
4. Nc3 dxc4
5. a4 e5!?
I've let fritz look at that initial position... it gives white only a
small edge so there's some compensation but i'm having trouble

Kasparov Interview about Book ! by
Jim
Karpov's contribution to chess was greater than Fischers ??? heehee
Of course he did, pillock; he contributed not necessarily as much to the
general welfare of players, but certainly to the game, simply because he
defended his title strenuously through the '70s and '80s, something that
Fischer sadly would (or could) not.

Ivanisevic - Supatashvili -- Panormo, 1998 by
Dvd Avins
Does anyone know where I could find analysis of this game?
In particular, is 20...e5 really necessary? And if not, is Black so bad? The
whole line (starting with 6.Qe2) has been just awful for Black for the past
several years, so I would think that if 13...Qxf3 was viable, someone would
have tried it again, but I can only find this one instance of it from 5
years ago.
In a recent correspondance...

Chess Puzzles by
W T Harvey
Here are some puzzles taken from the chess games of strong players of
the early 20th century. Except where noted, it's "White to Move and
Win".

Great Predecessors on Pillsbury-Lasker by
Charles Blair
Hanon Russell's review of MY GREAT PREDECESSORS on www.chesscafe.com
reproduces the book's account of a famous game in which Lasker first
offers a rook on c3, then again on a3. I did a superficial comparison
with the annotations in THE WORLD'S GREAT CHESS GAMES (Nunn, Burgess,
Emms). Although there was some overlap, it seemed that Kasparov was
offering some insights not present in the earlier...

B45/3 Sicilian by
Douglas L Stewart
I played a game this past weekend against an Expert where I got into an
e6/Nc6 setup as Black. I don't normally play that, but it felt rather
comfortable so I've been doing some more research this week.
One of the most challenging responses to the line I'm interested in seems to
be 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cd 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e6 6. g3.
The B45/3 line in ECO then goes 6 .. d5 7. exd5 Nxd5 8....

Sick of players who INSIST on playing *BOOK* openings by
Scott
I have found a lot of players (at least online) - only play book
openings from memory - and when things deviate drastically from what
they are used to (especially in a 5-min game) - they can be easily
defeated. As a test I have gone on to various chess playing sites and
opened my game with 1. e4 * 2. ke2 * 3. ke3 * etc. and won the games
90% of the time. After my silly moves they tend to...

Nd5 Interesting. Note h4 even more interesting? You need for analysis equal to chess engine a database of games. One complements the other. This is based on the board position prior to 14 Nd5.

Danish Gambit by
Radek Dobias
Anybody knows of any decent books on Danish Gambit?
It is a rather aggresive, wild opening. White sacrifices two pawns for a
strong attack in the opening. When I played it for the first time in a local
club, I defeated a 2000 player in the first 15 moves (I am about 1500). Of
course, he creamed me the next game (lol)....
It makes me wonder if the gambit is unsound, and if not, is there any...

I played in another USCF tournament on sunday which was 4 rounds of
game 60 against players of the same level. And I lost all my games

endgames and GM games but I just can't seem to beat anybody. You
gotta help me.

Black: Me (1008)
