GetClub - what the frick ?!? by Tobias Heidelmann
Hi, i am new to chess in general and to this newsgroup in particular. I have noticed that most conversation concerns this GetClub engine / site, which seems (according to some posts) to be in an experimental state but already charges money for usage. So, my question is, what is so special about it? if i want a human player i usually play on fics, if i want an adjustable computer opponent, i...

Survey on chess skill by rwh@unsw.edu.au
Do you have an FIDE rating? Dr. Robert Howard of the University of New South Wales in Australia is carrying out a study of chess skill in internationally rated players. The study looks at effects of amount of practice, coaching and age of starting chess on chess skill and at chess players’ views about chess skill. The study involves a short online survey. The survey is for anyone who has, or who...

question on slav defense by Tobias Heidelmann
Hi, i am very new to chess. I started playing about 6 months ago, so the solution to the question i have may be obvious, but i cannot see it. From what i have read the slav defense goes like 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 i.e. black does not take the gambit and decides on strengthening his d5 pawn. next, (as you all know) the main variations are like 3.Nc3 or 3.Nf3, the

Is this game properly played by Master Level? by Sanny
In this game Master Level lost its pawn 2 times. After analysing a lot with my small brains (1100 rated) I could not see how those pawns can be saved. What do (2100+ rated) players say? Can those two pawns be saved from the Zebediah's Jaws? First Pawn was taken by Queen at 20th move.

GetClub Chess made Twice Better. by Sanny
Today again GetClub Chess was further improved and it will play Twice Better. This time a bug was removed. 1 week back GetClub was 16 times weaker than Normal Level. Now GetClub Chess is just 8 times weaker than Rybka. So The move Rybka takes 5 seconds to think, GetClub will take 5*8 = 40 Seconds. So in 40 seconds GetClub will play same move that Rybka thinks in 5

Two Rooks vs Knight+Rook ending? by Sanny
Here is a game where Master Level has 2 Rooks left with 6 pawns and Help Bot has Rook and Knight and 7 Pawns. So Help Bot had Knight+Pawn vs Rook. So Master Level was at advantage at Rook is equal to Knight + 2 Pawns while Help bot had only 1 extra pawn. But Help Bot advanced its pawns and killed many pawns of GetClub.

Manual of the Game of Chess by P.R. von Bilguer, 1880 Edition by samsloan
I am in the process of reprinting "Manual of the Game of Chess by P.R. von Bilguer", 1880 Edition, better known by its German title, Handbuch des Schachspiels von P. R. von Bilguer. This book is extremely rare. I happened to come across a copy in good condition. I have been unable to find another one, and I have searched everywhere. This book is the equivalent of Modern Chess Openings, but for...

Game with Rybka Drawn. !!! by Sanny
Today I tried a new game between Normal Level (100 seconds/move) & Rybka (5 seconds / move) And the Game was Drawn by Repetitive moves. Yesterday I said GetClub is 20 times weaker than Rybka, Since Normal Level which thinks 16 times more than Rybka at 5 seconds / move plays as good as Rybka. I showed a game where the game was nearly equal but later Rybka was able to break the defence and win in...

Most interesting game by Zebediah. by Sanny
Zebediah played one of the most interesting game against Advance Level. I was thinking now Zebediah will get real competition. But Zebediah played such interesting moves and win that everyone will be surprised to see. Zebediah first sacrificed its Rook for a pawn for no reasion. Then after a few moves he Sacrificed His Bishop for a Pawn.
