Sicilain Move Order Question by mike
I should probably know this, but .... I was playing over an old game the other day, and the moves were 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Can someone tell me why the modern move order is 3.d4? What's the drawback of 3.Nc3? Also, What's the drawback of 2.d4 (as in 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cd 3.Nf3) as Morphy used to play?

Chess game improved further with double pawns by Sanny
Now the game will prevent double pawn formation. I hope it will give a better game. Play Chess at: http://www.softtanks.com/chessgame/Chess.html 1. I feel the Opening is complete as it memorizes opening moves. 2. Now it plays Middle Game quite better. and understands basic rules of Middle Game. a- Centre Play

Pawn Power - Benoni Formation by mike
In his book Pawn Power in chess, Kmoch analyzes the game Sherwin - Reshevsky, New York 1953, in the section on Benoni formations (although this particular game is a KID). After 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.f3 0-0 6.Be3 e5 7.d5 Kmoch writes: "7...c5 transposes unfavorably to a Benoni Major. See Szabo - Ivkov." Any gambits against 1.d4? by straphael
I have a friend who always starts with 1.d4, and plays a slow, strategic game to win in the endgame. This takes a long time and it's quite frustrating for me. So here's my question. Do you have any offbeat gambits against 1.d4 that I could use to surprise my opponent? It doesn't have to be 100% sound or anything, I just want to try something new and different. Thanks Toey

Why should I study endgames?? by Zero
I was beaten by a master this weekend. He told that in order to improve chess players should study endgames. I don't understand why I should study endgames. If I can't get through the middlegame or the opening or am I supposed to get to a endgame? Also I bought a endgame studies book and I don't see the point in going over these studies. None of these positions are ever going to happen in any...
