Anyone like to play a mentor-student game? by Adrian MacNair
I was hoping someone would play an e-mail chess game where I play the moves and then tell you what my ideas are behind each move and what I am planning. You as the better player could give me feedback and advice on bad moves and illogical plays. Um, what's in it for you? I guess just kindness? lol I am an intermediate player, probably at a relative ELO of 1500.

1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 f3!? by Douglas L Stewart
I had someone play this against me this weekend in a blitz game. I got a good game out of the opening, but it got pretty tricky and I ended up losing. I ended up playing .. e6 and .. d5 but after a little research I think the best choice is an immediate .. e5 or .. d5. I looked through my Bookup database and I had entered at some point 5 f3?! d5 6 Bb5 Bd7 7 Bxc6 bxc6 8 e5 Ng8 9 Nc3 e6 =+. I...

I think I might become a GM. Post your ridicule here. by Ray Gordon
This is on the off chance that I actually become a GM and America wants me to play internationally. I dusted off a few master-strength players today like they were "intellectually challenged," and the geometry of the chessboard is suddenly starting to look very simple. Unlike the past, chess training fills my schedule in a good way, as I'd be goofing off or watching television. It also helps...

Poisened Pawn Variation by Chesshans
Hi there, which move do you think is the best for white in the "Poisened Pawn"-Variation of the Sicilian Najdorf: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4 Qb6 8. Qd2 Qxb2 9. Rb1 Qa3. There seem to be three main moves: 10. f5, e5, Be2. Which do you consider to be the best?

Kramnik & B58-The Boleslavsky, Louma Variation! by t.t.warnock@att.net
White has lost tempi (Knight makes 3 moves, Black's Knight makes 1 move.) White has strengthened Blacks Pawn structure; transfer of the b7 Pawn to c6 should be worth more in the middle game than the isolation of the a-Pawn or the closure of the c-file. The hole on d5 is now protected. What is White's compensation? What specific plan does White have?

I've invented a boardgame, 'stlts', and have set up a website, http://stlts.com , where people can try out the game, playing against a program that plays at beginner's level, or against other players. If you're curious to take a look I'd be grateful of any feedback. Thanks

Chess On Star Trek Enterprise by Inyo
In the opening sequence of the Observer Effect episode on Star Trek Enterprise this past week (goofy invisible, pure energy beings inhabit the bodies of a couple of crew members to "dispassionately" observe how humans will cope with a lethal silicon-based virus...the goofy, pure energy creatures at first refuse to interfere with the natural progression of events, which culminate in the deaths of...
