How accurate are computer ratings compared to Fide Human ratings?Very accurate. by raylopez99
I estimate my playing strength based on how often I beat my PC chess playing software (I have several programs, and a couple of handhelds), whose Elo is calibrated according to the SSDF rating list found he http://ssdf.bosjo.net/list.htm The SSDF site has a interesting link to a Man Vs. Machine site: http://privat.bahnhof.se/wb432434/Man%20vs%20Machine%20%20%20%2019%20Nov.htm I often have...

Tablebases in .emd format? by Sanny[_3_]
I downloaded the 3-men tablebases in .emd format to be used in GetClub Chess. I want to know the correct move for an endgame with 3 pieces left including Kings. Say KRK 1. How to get the .emd format to something I can understand it?

Rybka 4 is stronger...ergo Rybka 3 was weak by RayLopez99
A lot of fans of Rybka (Taylor Kingston being one of them) think it's better because it's more positional. But the latest Rybka, ver 4, is more tactical says the author, and much stronger. An admission that the previous "positional" Rybka was flawed. Just like I always knew and suspected. RL

InProgress Game: GetClub vs IVAN [High Levels] by Sanny[_3_]
In Below game with Normal Level . GetClub is behind in development. The game is not complete yet. But now I want to know what can GetClub do to stop the two center pawns of IVAN? Will IVAN be able to Queen easily? What were the wrong moves that GetClub should have avoided? Can GetClub get a draw at this point against IVAN? White: IVAN

new java chess program by Peter Osterlund
Here is a java chess program that I have written: http://web.telia.com/~u89404340/javachess/index.html Its main feature is that it is not extremely strong, so you should actually be able to beat it if you manage to avoid tactical errors. -- Peter Osterlund - http://web.telia.com/~u89404340

Need help coding endgame databases for checkers variant by Phil[_4_]
URL: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3022913&group_id=329800&atid=1383661 If chess can do 3-4-5 so easily, why not giventake? This rewrite of my initial engine actually started with endgame.h (which was then quickly forgotten and is currently disabled) A gapless index function should be pretty feasible. From the game state, all you need is: 1) side_to_move

True or false? Alekhine never saw a RxN Sicilian exchange sac in hislife! by raylopez99
Neil McDonald, in his book Positional Sacrifices (1994) says Alekhine never saw an exchange sac RxNc3 in his life, whereas nowadays this position is well known to be equal. True or false? McDonald uses as an example the game below (see 2... Rxc3). I have Chessbase but am not good at figuring out how to search for game using a template for a position (it would be hard to do?) Maybe some...

Covers on Chess Life Worse than Ever!! by samsloan
If you are among those still receiving Chess Life in the mail, your ballot came wrapped around the magazine. Open the ballot and look at the cover. Good thing they hid it. What is this? Another terrible cover. Out of focus, mis-colored. Cannot even tell if this is a drawing or a photograph. Almost every cover this year has been bad. We thought that the Photoshopped picture of a cow on the cover...

Alekhine's Best Games of Chess 1938-1945 by samsloan
The reason I post these introductions before I actually publish the book is that I eagerly await corrections or criticisms that you may provide. I corrected the error of stating that the Chess Olympiad and World War II started in 1938 rather than 1939 almost as soon as I had posted it here. Of course, the reason for my error was that Olympiads are usually held in even-numbered years.

CM 2007 by Jane Galt
Is Chessmaster The Art of Learning, Grandmaster Edition ( 2007 ) the last product that Ubi will be offering in the Chessmaster series? I was looking at their site for any patches for Windows 7 ( the game STILL hangs once in awhile sigh ) but found none, or any mention of future releases. --
