Default Looking for a weak engine

I'm a beginner, and although I know that I can learn from
losing, I would like to win a game once in a while. The
problem is I have Fritz 8, and it is too strong for me.
There are handicap settings, but they play more like a
master who is letting me win, than a weak player trying his
best.

Can anyone point me to an engine that doesn't make blunders,
but isn't very good?

Bringer 1.9 is free and has a nice interface. In "Options/Settings"
you can put an ELO rating to reduce the strength of play. I don't know
the exactness of this rating but I find it plays in a very natural way
for a relatively "weak" player.

IMHO it is something more natural than CM personalities (although thay
are fun to play with!) and Fritz weak ELOs, although I think "Friendly
game" in Fritz is pretty naturally weakened as well (but sadly we
don't know the ELOs of the "friendly" engine).

My suggestion would be:
1. install the ARENA interface (ie. a108_setup2)
2. optional install other, weaker (ie. Adamant), engines (look at the wbcc
(=Ridderkerk site for ELO-ratings of engines)

For questions, mail!

Success,

If you're looking for a weak chess engine, you can challenge the Free
Blubbie Chess Server online on the internet.
http://home.tiscali.nl/blubbieonline/index.html
Even I win sometimes and I only have a rating of 950 at FICS.
You can also watch the latest news on the same page as you play chess.

Take also a look at Mike Byrne's CraftySE engine.

This setting is saved in your BRINGER.CFG file located in your C:\WINDOWS
directory. If it is set to read only you won't be able to change settings.
Uncheck "Read only" in the properties for this file.

You may want to try this site for weak engines. They're older, but weak with
the Chessmaster 2000 ands 2100 being pretty weak. I hope this helps.
