Here's a handy little tip for using CB 9's super new "file view" function.
Let's say you click on a folder and the computer's hard disk starts spinning
out of control and CPU usage spikes up to 80% and everything else on your
computer is frozen. (This happened to me today).

What you do is press control-alt-delete and a little box comes up which
allows you to close unresponsive programs. Highlight CB 9 and click "end
task." This great new feature, which works like a charm, corrects a problem
in CB8, which when it froze could not be terminated except by unplugging the
computer.

Here's another great tip. When you see the message "Runtime Error in 1001
GameFramWnd" don't throw a brick at your computer!! If you do you'll be VERY
sorry!!!

CB9 has a unique function that allows you to close the program and pretend
that runtime error never occurred. Here's how to do it: Press
control-alt-delete, select CB9, and click on "End Task".

It's that simple!!!

What processor do you have and how much RAM? What operating
system? If you have an older computer with not much RAM, it is not
surprising that you had this problem. CB9 is designed to make use of
recent computers with fast processors and plenty of RAM.

My desktop computer has a P4 3Ghz processor and 1 GB of RAM. I
just opened CB9 and clicked on my largest database (Megabase 2005).
CPU usage "spiked" to all of 10% and the file view calculations were
completed in about 7 seconds. CB9 was using about 82 MB RAM after that
point.

The minimum requirements to run CB9 listed on the plastic case
are ridiculous (Win 98, 64 MB RAM) and even the "recommended" features
of Win XP and 256 RAM are too low for optimal performance.

If you DO have a recent computer and plenty of RAM, you should
not be having the problem you describe.

I have a 2.3 or 2.4 GHz processor, 512 Mb of RAM. I probably should get
another half meg of RAM but I hate opening up the box.

But this is not a new feature, especially not a new feature of Chessbase.
This
is a feature of your Windows OS and has been in existence for quite some
time.
It works with any program, and works with CB8 unless something has become
corrupted as below.

Also, pressing Ctrl/alt/del a few times (the claim is 2 but I've found
holding
down ctrl/alt and hitting del 3 - 4 times is what works) will reboot your
computer. It is not an especially good thing to unplug your computer for
a hard
re-boot. This can result in a possible corruption of some files and loss
of some
data. Not necessarily, but you are taking a bit of a chance.


No problem is so formidable that you can't just walk away from it.

You are an IMBECILE De Palma! There is nothing new about this "feature" you
are referring to. Windows task manager has been around for many years and
can end ANY program that is running on your computer, let alone, any
Chessbase version (INCLUDING CB8).

This braindead freak De Palma here doesn't even know about forcing a
computer off by holding down the power button. He probably just learned
about the windows task manager!

The mental image I got of a stupid wop unplugging his computer in a helpless
frenzy to close an unresponsive program was enough to make my day!
