Have you guys checked out the FPGA chess playing computers? They are
in their infancy and already Brutus is destroying grandmasters (cf. ChessBase). For next year they're talking about 6 million positions/sec and almost unlimited chess knowledge!!? In 2 years nobody--software nor human--will be able to beat FPGA in a match or tournament. Quote me on that! Paul |

Quote me on that! Paul general-purpose computers are already that fast. IE a 4-wayxeon. A 4-way opteron will be even faster. And there are 32-way boxes around. Out of curiosity, is anyone hacking a hardware chess engine out there? I am working on a Go engine in hardware (FPGA). Here is a little story, a picture of the board, a PDF about the hottest alternative and a PS about a chess engine in a FPGA: http://www.zenhacker.com/Blog.htm |
