I'm not sure if it exists, but I'm wondering if there's program that saves
it's analysis and doesn't need to start from scratch each time....mainly so
I can explore different moves quickly within a game.

In Fritz's infinite analysis mode, you can `lock' the engine to a
particular position. It will continue to analyze that position as you
move through the game. To toggle this feature, hit Ctrl-Alt-L or
right-click the engine pane and choose `Lock engine' from the menu.

I'm not sure if that's the feature you're looking for, though.

Pro Deo has such a feature. It's called something like Extended
Learner. When active it will save the analysis and will use that saved
analysis the next time the position is on the board.

However it will start from scratch each time. Only the calculation time
diminishes. If for example searching to 15 ply the first time took 2
minutes, the second time it might take just a minute to reach the same
15th ply. Since it is meant as learner for the engine, the engine has a
minute more to do further analysis. However in analysis mode, this is
useful for you as well.

Because it's actually a learner function for the enige itself, it has
its limitations. This works only until the 31 move of white. The
analysis of every move thereafter will not be saved. You can however
start a new game, paste in the position after 30 moves and start the
analysis again. Because of the "new game" Pro Deo starts counting at 0
again and will again save the first 30 moves.

Further, if the position is in the learner file, it will only show that
move in the variation until it arrives at a "new ply". Only then a full
calculated variation will be shown.

And the file only can contain 99995 positions if I am not mistaken. It
takes a time to fill up though...
