I'm tired of playing regular chess when all you can look foward to are
swapping pieces til the dry endgame comes around and just a few pawns left to win the game. And since regular chess is memorized til move 35 to 40...why bother playing chess anymore? I've switched to Crazyhouse. This is the only way to save the game of chess from draw death. Crazyhouse ensures games are fought to the death and there is almost always a clear winner. Best of all endgames are now exciting as one can play pieces one captures to almost any available square on the chessboard. I wonder what Bobby Fischer thinks of Crazyhouse? And the funny thing is there seems to be only one chess engine in the entire market of chess software that plays crazyhouse...Crazyhouse Challenger and the Winboard engine Sjeng. That's it. I hope Chessbase eventually offers a version of Fritz that can play Crazyhouse. Now THAT'S a version of the chess program I'd buy in a minute. |

The free Winboard engines KKFChess and Sunsetter also play crazyhouse. KKFChess is available at http://freespace.virgin.net/andrew.fankk/ and Sunsetter is available at http://sunsetter.sourceforge.net/ There's also a rules file for the program Zillions of Games that can play crazyhouse. It's available at: http://www.chessvariants.org/index/z...id=zCrazyhouse Tony |

More like move 5-15, depending on the line. why bother playing chess anymore? I've switched to Crazyhouse. This is the only way to save the game of chess from draw death. Crazyhouse is interesting, but it's not chess. It would favor anyone with arcane knowledge. |

I wonder how much larger the total number of games could be played via Crazyhouse rules. Any ideas on that? There are so many possible games of chess that the extra crazyhouse rules make no difference in practical terms. :-) Dave. -- David Richerby Mouldy Robot (TM): it's like a www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~davidr/ high-tech robot but it's starting to grow mushrooms! |

Crazyhouse is interesting, but it's not chess. It would favor anyone with arcane knowledge. I have to disagree here. Have you tried Crazyhouse? Games are over very quickly if you're not careful. Primarily because the theory of the game is not that well-developed, which is bad to the opposite extreme. Try the favorite openings like the Ruy Lopez and you're in for a shock. It adds a whole new complexity to the game of chess so I must take issue with the suggestion that Crazyhouse favors people with arcane knowledge. It does. The rules are far different from chess and the theory is almost nonexistent. However, I do agree with one thing though...to play Crazyhouse against an opponent OTB requires at least a total of 3 sets of chess pieces...and this is from my experience playing against Sjeng via Winboard. I would imagine that it would. Of course Crazyhouse isn't "chess" but it uses the same pieces but has a far more interesting setup based on its rules. I wonder how much larger the total number of games could be played via Crazyhouse rules. Any ideas on that? Crazyhouse is far different from chess and would not solve the "draw" problem in chess, because it is not chess. The easiest way to reduce draws in chess is to shorten the time controls. |

And you seem to be contradicting yourself again. You claim that the theory isn't well-developed but that the game favours those with `arcane knowledge'. What is this `arcane knowledge' if it isn't theory? The easiest way to reduce draws in chess is to shorten the time controls. The easiest way to reduce draws in chess is not to play...
