Default Best Positional Engine & Player

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to use Fritz to improve my play, and was looking for some
opinions as to which engine is best at positional play? Also, in order
to supplemnt the learning, which player does everyone believe is the
best at positional/strategic play. I've read that Capablanca was a
fine positional player, but just looking for some add'l opinions.

Also, would anyone recommend any books that could help improve one's
evaluation of positions and strategic direction. Many times I'm in a
game where I'm not certain of the evaluation, nor which direction
should I go from a strategic perspective. I can clearly see the
material evaluation, but seem lost when deciding who's position is
better.

Thanks,
Mike

Hiarcs is considered one of the better positional engines available.
I use both Fritz and Hiarcs and find them virtually identical for the
games I analyze.

Some excellent books for positional evaluation include:
The Amateur Mind and How to Reassess Your Chess both by Jeremy Silman

Hiarcs would seem to be the strongest among more positinal engines, but
in version 9 it looks like the tactical powers are more dominating.
Another good positional engine could be Anaconda - it's free, and you
can get it from the download/engines section at Chessbase.

Opinions vary, but in my opinion, Alexander Alekhine was the best
positional player of all time. In any case, no one can deny that his
"My Best Games of Chess" is a *must* for any chess player. This book
will certainly help in evaluating strategic direction. Just watch how
Alekhine moves into attacking positions! warm regards, GreyHipster
