Can someone who owns Chessmaster 8000 please post Gary Kasparov's
opening book (Kasparov.obk) to the internet so that those of us with Chessmaster 9000 can enjoy his play. As you may already know CM9000 does not come with a Kasparov personality. AR |

I dl'd the cmbooks.zip. Thanks. Can you give us the settings for the
Kasparov personality? Wilma "Tet Omeg" wrote in message ... I don't know if it is any different from the Kasparov opening book in Chessmaster 8000. The KasparovG.obk opening book from Chessmaster 7000 is only 22,450 bytes--although I think all it does is tell the Reference.OBK which openings to play. You may also be interested in downloading quite a few free opening books for Chessmaster from the UBI Soft website. See the below pages: http://chessmaster8000.ubi.com/downloads.html or: http://www.chessmasternetwork.com/downloads.html The file URL is: ftp://ftp.ubisoft.com/games/chessmas...er/cmbooks.zip With my Opera browser I was only ever able to successfully download anything directly from the either of the above top two "Download" webpages once--a message kept popping up from the sites saying that it was full and asking for a log-in name and passphrase. Although I was finally able to download the cmbooks.zip file with Internet Explorer. If you have trouble downloading it just keep trying, possibly using different browsers. Below is posted the KasparovG.obk opening book from Chessmaster 7000 in UUEncode: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- sum -r/size 49963/22450 |

Oh, and just to make the Kasparov personality from the Chessmaster
7000 even more complete, below is the personal information it gives on him. On the personality selection box it gives the below information: ---------------------------------------------------- KASPAROV Prefers open games, Sicilian defense ---------------------------------------------------- On the "Info" tab, it gives the below information: ---------------------------------------------------- Kasparov Biography (1963 - ) Born Harry Weinstein in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, his name was later changed to Garry Kasparov in order to sound more 'Russian'. At 17 he won the World Junior and become the youngest world champion at 22 by beating Karpov in 1985. Both Kasparov and Karpov towered above their contemporaries for another ten years and treated fans to the greatest rivalry in chess history. In 1993 Kasparov forfeited the FIDE championship by declining to play under FIDE rules and instead helped found the Professional Chess Association (PCA). In 1995 he beat Anand to surpass Fischer as the highest rated player ever, but it was his games against the IBM supercomputer Deep Blue that brought him some of his greatest publicity. In 1996 he defended the honor of all mankind by beating the super-machine 4 games to 2 in a 6 game match, but after IBM made many refinements Deep Blue came back much stronger and in their 1997 rematch Kasparov fell (3.5 - 2.5). Style Kasparov calculates quickly and finds rich opening novelties, which are usually the product of deep preparation. Often he will give up a pawn or sacrifice material just so that his pieces have more mobility. He often amazes spectators by choosing discarded openings such as the Scotch Game or the sharp Evans Gambit. Basically he opens with 1. d4 and usually defends against 1. e4 with the double-edged Sicilian. ########################### On Wed, 05 Nov 2003 23:46:14 GMT, Tet Omeg wrote: On Wed, 05 Nov 2003 22:55:32 GMT, "Wilma" wrote: I dl'd the cmbooks.zip. That's great, Tet. Thanks. So, I have the KasparovG.obk now, and the CM7k
settings. Whatever isn't there for CM9k will be set the same as the Chessmaster personality. I'm surprised the settings for Kasparov aren't much different from CM's settings. Tet I did not see any UUENCODE file with any of your posts. I use
Google Groups and I don't know if that supports UUENCODE files. Could you possibly email the Kasparov.obk file to me at ' ? After all you said it was only 22k. Incidentally the CM9000 opening books are small also, so they still must be using a reference book. Wilma you probably want to set Kasparov's selective search up to 9. All of the historic chessmasters in CM9000 use nine including the Chessmaster personality. Anthony |
