Now ICC has stopped guests using the server, I want to create a trail
account, then when it expires, create a second one. (I am registered BTW)

But those trial expires after a week or two. Does anyone know how ICC
know how a particular computer has had a trial recently?

I've tried looking for blitzin in the registry on my XP box and note
there are plenty of references to it after the program has been
unistalled. Some I can't remove, so its possible its stored in one of
those. And of course, they don't need to use that name.

Or does Blitzin detect the MAC address perhaps? I looked on Wikipedia
and found how to change the MAC address. Unfortunately I did not write
the old one down, but an attempt to change it, disable the adapter and
then enable the adapter, made the system unstable. After a reboot it was
fine.

If I know for sure it is the MAC address they detect, then I'll spend a
bit of time and change that if possible. I know its a function of the
hardware (network adapter), but I believe it can be spoofed n Windows.

Blitzin don't use the IP address - at least not in isolation anyway.

Sorry ICC if you don't like what I want to do, but I don't really don't
care. The guest accounts were useful so if I can find a way of creating
an anonymous account, I will do so. I pay for a service.

Although I am a certified MCSE (Minefield Consultant and Solitaire
Expert), I don't know much about Windows. Perhaps I should leave it to
the 8-year old who was at one time the youngest MCSE !!! (Dave, not a
Windoze fan).

PS, if anyone wants to tell me how its done, but not on a Newsgroup,
just hit reply - the email address will be valid, despite the From:
addressing being useless.

Well, here's an obvious guess: Do you login as the same name each time
for the week trail? If so, then they obviously control it from their
servers. They would have to, or you could not login in from different
machines, like I do, from home and work.

No. I pretty much select random usernames, passwords and email
addresses. Sure I log in as my own username, for the account I pay for
but for the trials, I use any old thing.

My guess is they do it by Mac address, but I'm not sure. I thought
someone might know. I guess its only a matter of time before someone
finds a way around this annoyance.
