How about "GNUCHESS"? It's a fairly ancient program, about weak
master/expert strength. It should prove a match for any child. "Ian Cummings" wrote in message ... Hi all, I'm looking for a computer chess program. Must be easy to use (preferably Windows, but a graphical DOS game would be fine) and not be too good ! This is probably a strange requirement, but it's for my 9-year-old who's showing an interest, and it'd be nice if she could win now and again without my help ![]() Also, modest hardware requirements. I've got a copy of Pawnchess, which seems just the job - trouble is, it won't run on her PC. It's fine on my laptop, but I'd like something similar that she can play on her own PC, which just about runs Win95. Oh, and freeware would be nice. Kids being kids, I'd rather not spend any money at the moment as she'll probably tire of it in a matter of days ! Any suggestions greatly appreciated. -- regards, Ian Cummings |

for a 300Mz machine you can get a lot of crappy master level or less
computer programs. Try "Kasparov's Gambit"...it's about expert level...and very fun. It usually comes with a bridge game. Plus it even has a few lessons. Or try one of the early chessmaster games...they are all expert/weak master strength (up to 3000)....you can d/l them for free (www.theunderdog.com) , or pick them up for a dollar or two in the bargain bin at Best Buy. Btw...I'm not sure if that link is right, but if it doesn't work give me a holler. |
