File - New - Rated Game Playing strength - uncheck Unleashed box then you can set playing strength to a min of 1590 That's still a whopping 270 elo stronger than you Lohner! Maybe if you set it at the minimum, drop it a few times, and put batteries that are almost dead, you can get it's strength down. JMR |

My friend played his Fritz 9 vs Rybka in I7 , 5 minute blitz games and
Fritz went one and sixteen ......ouch.... But on longer time controls 25 min game they drew and a 90 min game Fritz won..... Why can Fritz draw and win a longer thinking game and get dominated at the short game ? |

I noticed that Rybka tends to come up with the correct move much quicker than Fritz, even though it's crunching less n/s. In my bench testing, Rybka even amazingly utilized gamesmanship to eek out wins in drawish positions against Fritz. It would jockey with the position for awhile and make it's lever move when Fritz was dangerously low on time. I've always said that a chess program should be designed by a strong chess player. Vasik Rajlich is just that, he's an IM. Even his wife is a 2450 FIDE rated player and also works on the Rybka project. JMR |

Why can Fritz draw and win a longer thinking game and get dominated at the short game ? My guess is that Rybka makes more shortcuts in its analysis. This means that, if there is a good move, Rybka will be more likely to find it more quickly. On the other hand, if the move has a subtle refutation, Fritz is more likely to find it, given enough time. But that's just a guess. That's like saying the car is going faster because the wheels are making more rotations per minute. You're not actually saying anything. And a guess from a know-nothing patzer like Richerboy here has about as much value as the psychotic ramblings of a schizophreniac drunk. JMR |

His Fritz beats my Ivan as black and white .
So he dummied down his Fritz to see about what ELO my Ivan is...The box says I,800 ELO well we figure it out to be I,700 ELO .....At that ELO Ivan can win and sometimes it loses but it is always seems like a close game ..... |
