I forget how long Fritz8 has been out, but it seems like it has been
awhile, and improvements must have been engineered in the meantime. Has
anyone heard of plans for ChessBase to release a new generation of Fritz,
or that Fritz9 is in any advanced stage of development or beta-testing?

I would imagine a release of Fritz 9 would be a good opportunity to
release a new version of Chessbase as well. Because Chessbase 8 has been
long in the tooth for an upgrade. And its showing its age in my opinion.
Rumors about the Chessbase upgrade has been going around for a while
now...and I think we're going to get some kind of news on this soon.

ChessBase8 could do with more robust handling of very large databases;
computer capabilities have hugely improved since it was released, circa
October 2000. It's still a great program though. I spend more time
using it than Fritz, in fact.

Rumour has it that the release of Fritz 9 is around Jnauary 2005.

Well, that's *KIND* of around the corner, if the rumor is attached to
truth. Thanks.
